I am a qualified Specialist Assessor and a member of the Dyslexia Guild with an Assessment Practising Certificate (0217/419)

I am able to offer diagnostic assessments to adults and children.

I can work with SENCOs to put access arrangements in place.

I can provide DSA reports to ensure support for university study.

I have worked in the field of dyslexia for 15 years, tutoring teachers at diploma level about specific learning difficulties. I am also a psychologist and have published extensively in the field of neuropsychology, particularly around the difficulties experienced by children with dyslexia, epilepsy and ADHD.

Research: Epilepsy

Did you know that children with Rolandic Epilepsy are more likely to have reading difficulties than other children?  The seizures that accompany this kind of epilepsy disappear as children enter adolescence but the reading problems can linger on.

Research: Sleep

We are now establishing how important sleep is for children particularly those with learning difficulties.  In a recent study we used a newly developed child-friendly target detection game presented on an iPad® to understand more about the impact of sleep upon performance in typically developing children.  We found that sleep appeared to stabilise their ability to hit targets accurately, in contrast with a similar daytime period where they became worse.  This game has allowed us to demonstrate how important sleep is for maintaining attention and we plan to use it to answer other questions about sleep and development within clinical settings.

When a flower doesn't bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.

Channing Tatum, Actor

If I have a script, I'm gonna read it five times slower than any other actor, but I'll be able to tell you everything in it.

Scott Sonnen, Athelete

I didn’t succeed despite my dyslexia, but because of it. It wasn’t my deficit, but my advantage.
